Location: Auckland, New Zealand

Orientation: Landscape

This photograph was taken on a wet day in Auckland, down at Britomart.

I noticed them tucked into the shelter — boots muddy, jackets bright against the concrete — passing time together as the rain did its thing.

The moment wasn’t arranged.
It was caught.

Camera on my hip.
A quick lift.
Point and hope — the way a lot of street photographs are made.

What I love about this image is the camaraderie.
The shared jokes.
The quiet understanding that comes from doing hard work together and stealing a moment of rest.

Phones in hand, conversation still flowing.
Modern, ordinary, deeply familiar.

At first glance, it reads as a simple break in the day.
Then the details settle in — posture, proximity, the way attention moves between them.

This is a photograph that belongs in living spaces and places where people gather — rooms where connection, conversation, and shared experience matter.

It doesn’t ask for focus.
It invites recognition.
