Life, Imitating Art, Dakar

Location: Dakar, Senegal

Orientation: Landscape

This photograph was taken in Dakar, from the back of a taxi on the way to one of the medical clinics we were visiting.

The city was already moving — people walking with purpose, the street alive with colour and noise. What caught my eye was the wall.

A line of painted faces.
Expressions fixed in place.
And above them, a man crossing the frame at just the right moment.

It felt like life stepping briefly into the artwork — or the artwork spilling back into the street.

Nothing was staged.
There was no time to adjust or wait.

Just a quick decision.
A frame taken in motion.
A moment already disappearing.

What I love about images like this is the overlap — where daily life, creativity, and coincidence meet without trying to make a point. The photograph doesn’t resolve the relationship between them. It simply holds it.

This image works well in living spaces and places where people pause and notice — rooms that invite conversation, reflection, and second looks. Each time you return to it, the balance between art and life shifts slightly.
