Piha at Dusk

Piha at dusk, after a long summer day on the beach.

The kind of day that ends with fish and chips eaten straight from the paper. Salt on your skin. Sand everywhere. Kids exhausted but still stretching out the last of the light.

As the sun drops, Lion Rock turns into a silhouette. The sky burns orange, then softens. The noise fades. What was loud and full just hours before becomes quiet and reflective.

For me, this is the feeling of a New Zealand summer. Big skies. Wild coastline. Families lingering longer than planned because no one quite wants to leave.

There’s drama in the light, but calm in the space. The tiny figures against the scale of the rock remind you how small we are, and how lucky.
