Auckland Rising

One Sunday at home, the fog rolled in low and heavy across the harbour.

On the off chance of something interesting, I headed up Mt Victoria in Devonport just before sunrise. There’s always that question on mornings like this — will it clear, or will it close in completely?

As the light strengthened, the fog began to thin just enough.

The city emerged slowly. First the Sky Tower. Then the buildings around it. A glimpse of Auckland rising above the mist — suspended between water and sky.

What I love about this image is its restraint. Most of the frame is softness. Quiet tone. Subtle colour. And then, in the centre, structure. Presence. A city revealed but not fully given.

It feels calm. Reflective. Slightly cinematic.

This piece works beautifully in open, light-filled spaces — living rooms, offices, or hallways where the pale tones can breathe. It brings atmosphere without weight, and a quiet sense of perspective.
