Before the City Wakes

Taken early morning in Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter, this photograph was made on my walk from the ferry to the office — a routine I came to value deeply. Before meetings, before noise, before the city fully arrives.

The harbour was glassy, the light soft and generous. Cranes stood still, boats barely moved, and the city felt momentarily held in balance between rest and work. These quiet transitions became a way for me to centre myself before the day unfolded.

This image isn’t about the destination. It’s about the pause — the brief, almost unnoticed space where clarity arrives before momentum takes over.
