Before the First Run

This photograph was taken on the drive up to Cardrona ski field, early in the morning before the lifts opened and the day properly began.

The moon was still hanging low in the sky while the sun had already found the slopes — a brief overlap where night hadn’t quite let go and day was quietly arriving. Snow held the light beautifully, carving shape and texture across the ridgeline.

I love the restraint of this moment. No movement. No noise yet. Just anticipation.

It’s one of those scenes that makes you stop the car without really thinking about it — a reminder of how lucky we are to have landscapes like this so close, so familiar, and still capable of surprising you.

This image works especially well in calm, uncluttered spaces — places where the contrast between light and shadow can breathe, and where you want the room to feel grounded rather than busy.
