Before the light changes

This photograph was taken while camping at Pakiri, before sunrise.

The beach was quiet.
The light still undecided.

Great Barrier sat low on the horizon, softened by mist. In the foreground, a piece of driftwood rested exactly where the tide had left it — briefly, deliberately, as if placed.

Nothing was happening yet.
And that was the point.

What drew me in was the balance — shape against light, weight against openness. A moment that felt complete, even though it was about to disappear the second the sun cleared the horizon and changed everything.

Silhouette, for me, is about restraint.
Letting form carry the meaning.
Letting space do the work.
