Call to Prayer, Dakar

This photograph was taken on a rooftop in Dakar, invited into a family christening for the niece of our sponsor. The afternoon unfolded slowly — singing, praise, laughter, gifts — all shaped by the heat and the shared effort to catch whatever breeze we could.

As the sun dropped, the city softened. The call to prayer drifted across the rooftops, weaving through conversation and song. I asked if I might take a few photographs, and for a moment everything felt suspended — ceremony, colour, faith, and family held together in the fading light.

What stays with me is not just the richness of dress or the setting, but the sense of belonging I was briefly allowed to witness. A private moment, generous enough to be shared.
