Edge of the lake

Taken on Lake Brunner on a clear, quiet day, this image captures a white heron perched calmly above the water as we explored the shoreline. Known locally as Doug, he seemed completely unbothered by our presence — unruffled, patient, and perfectly at ease as the light shifted around him.

There’s a sense of stillness in the way he holds the branch, framed by open sky and tangled forms, as if waiting for the right moment rather than forcing it. It was one of those days spent simply following the light across the lake, letting scenes reveal themselves rather than hunting them down.
