First Light, Wānaka

This photograph was taken just outside Wānaka, early in the morning on the way up the mountain.

The sun had only just crested the peaks, catching the snow with a soft pink glow while the valley below was still cold and blue. It was one of those moments where everything slows — the road, the plan for the day, even the cold — because the light asks for your attention.

I had to stop.

There’s a quiet confidence in this scene. The mountains aren’t dramatic for the sake of it. They simply sit there, letting the light do the work.

This image brings warmth without noise and works beautifully in spaces where you want a sense of openness and calm — places where the day begins, rather than rushes.
