Golden Patterns

Taken at the end of the day at Piha, this photograph captures a quiet golden-hour moment as the lowering sun illuminated the sand left patterned by the retreating tide. With the beach largely empty and the day winding down, the light revealed subtle ridges and curves that would disappear again with the next wave.

What drew me in was the simplicity — no horizon, no scale markers, just light and texture working together. The warm tones give the image a sense of calm and warmth, while the repeating patterns invite the eye to wander slowly across the frame. It’s a small, easily missed moment that only exists briefly before the surface is reset.
