Last Light on Petals

Sometimes something simply catches my eye.

These flowers were in our house. My wife loves picking them and placing them around the home. By this point they were already fading — petals softening, colours deepening, edges beginning to curl.

Most people would have thrown them out.

But in that moment I saw something else. Texture. Detail. Contrast. The way the light picked up every fold and imperfection. The quiet dignity of something nearing its end.

I grabbed my camera.

We now have this on our wall, and it still makes me stop. Not because it’s perfect — but because it isn’t. It’s a reminder that beauty often lives in transition. In fragility. In the in-between.

This piece works beautifully in bedrooms, hallways, or intimate living spaces. The soft neutrals and deep shadows create warmth without shouting. It invites you closer.
