Light, Woven

This photograph was taken on a coastal walk — though it could just as easily have been a backyard anywhere in Aotearoa.

What caught my eye was the way the palms crossed and overlapped, with the light hitting them just right. Shadow and brightness weaving together. Order emerging without design.

It reminded me of raranga — the art of plaiting and weaving — often used to create kete and other everyday forms. Not as a direct reference, but as a familiar rhythm. Repetition. Balance. Strength created through interconnection.

This image is about pattern found, not imposed.
About the bush quietly holding knowledge, if you stop long enough to notice.

It carries a sense of place and texture — something recognisable, but never fixed. The kind of image that reveals more the longer you live with it.

It works beautifully in living spaces where people pause — hallways, stairwells, shared rooms — places where light moves and the day unfolds around it.
