Waiheke Ridge at Sunset

Taken on Waiheke Island on the drive back from Man O’ War Bay.

It had already been a full day. Salt, sun, tired kids, sandy towels. We were on our way home as the ridge line ahead turned black against a sky that was on fire.

I pulled over.

There were groans from the back seat. Of course there were. Another “just a minute” while Dad grabbed the camera.

But the sun slipping below that line of wind-shaped trees was too good to miss. The silhouettes, the layered cloud, the deep orange stretching wide across the horizon — it felt like the island pausing before night took over.

There’s something grounding about this image. The simplicity of land and sky. The way the trees lean slightly, shaped by years of coastal wind. It speaks of place, resilience, and the rhythm of long summer days.
