Morning drift

This photograph was made early in the morning on Takapuna Beach, just as the light began to lift and the beach settled into a quiet rhythm. Rather than chasing detail, I let the camera move with the scene, using slow shutter speed — allowing colour, tide, and horizon to soften into one another.

The result is less about place and more about feeling. The gentle bands of pink, violet, and blue create a sense of calm and continuity, like watching the day arrive without interruption. There’s movement here, but it’s unhurried — a slow exhale rather than a moment frozen in time.
