Southern Drama

Taken on the road to Hokitika, looking toward the Southern Alps above Flock Hill Station.

The weather was turning. Low cloud began spilling over the ridgeline, folding into the valleys and softening the sharp edges of the mountains. The light moved quickly — one slope illuminated, another already swallowed by shadow.

That contrast is what stopped me.

The pale scree faces, the dense dark bush, the muted browns of the foreground hills — all layered beneath a ceiling of moving cloud. It felt unmistakably New Zealand. Raw, textured, dramatic without trying too hard.

This piece works beautifully in larger spaces where it has room to breathe — above a sofa, in a study, or along a long hallway wall. It brings depth and mood to a room, grounding it with scale and quiet intensity.
